DUBAI: The United Arab Emirates reacted with outrage on Monday after the house of its ambassador in war-torn Sudan was attacked and badly broken.
The oil-rich Gulf state, which has repeatedly denied accusations of involvement within the conflict, blamed the Sudanese armed forces for the “heinous” assault.
Sudan’s military denied finishing up the assault, insisting it doesn’t goal diplomatic missions.
The military accuses the UAE of backing the paramilitary Fast Help Forces (RSF), which it has been preventing since April 2023 in a conflict that has killed tens of hundreds of individuals and ignited a dire humanitarian disaster.
“The United Arab Emirates has strongly condemned the heinous assault that focused the residence of the UAE head of mission in Khartoum by a Sudanese military plane, which resulted in intensive harm to the constructing,” the official WAM information company mentioned.
“The UAE has referred to as on the military to imagine full accountability for this cowardly act,” it added, describing it as a “flagrant violation of the basic precept of the inviolability of diplomatic premises”.
The Sudanese military responded that it “condemns and denies the accusation” by the UAE, including that “it doesn’t goal the headquarters of diplomatic missions, United Nations businesses or voluntary organisations and doesn’t flip them into navy bases and loot their belongings”.
“The one which carries out these heinous and cowardly actions is the terrorist, insurgent militia (RSF)… supported in committing all this by international locations recognized to the world,” a press release mentioned.
In line with eyewitnesses in Khartoum, heavy clashes have raged in a number of components of the capital for the previous 4 days, in a significant flare-up of hostilities.
In June, Sudan’s ambassador to the United Nations Al-Harith Idriss al-Harith Mohamed accused Abu Dhabi of giving monetary and navy help to the RSF, calling it the “important purpose behind this protracted conflict”.
The UAE has denied allegations of supporting the RSF as “disinformation”, saying its efforts are targeted completely on de-escalation and assuaging Sudan’s humanitarian struggling.
