TEL AVIV, Israel — The Israel navy launched a strike on suburban Beirut Friday, the primary time it has struck Lebanon’s capital metropolis space because it reached a November 2024 ceasefire with the militant group Hezbollah.
Israel stated it was focusing on a drone storage facility utilized by Hezbollah within the Dahiyeh suburb, after early morning rockets have been fired from southern Lebanon towards northern Israel.
The Iran-backed Lebanese militant group denied Friday’s rocket hearth in addition to a earlier assault on March 22, and stated it was dedicated to the ceasefire. No different group has claimed duty.
The Israeli navy warned residents to evacuate Dahiyeh’s Hadath neighborhood previous to the strike.
Plumes of smoke rose from Beirut’s southern suburbs. Between the evacuation order and the assault, Umm Abbas, 60, instructed NPR by cellphone from Hadath: “There’s panic. There are two colleges close by stuffed with youngsters. Persons are screaming left and proper, individuals are crying.”
It was not instantly clear if there have been casualties within the capital. However Lebanese officers have reported 18 individuals killed in Israeli drone, air and artillery strikes over the previous week.

The preventing comes as Israel has renewed its navy offensive within the Gaza Strip that began after the Oct. 7, 2023, Hamas-led assault on Israel.
